An angel addressed the Buddha:

Many gods and humans
Have on the blessings reflected,
Seeking after safety.
So please,
Tell us a supreme blessing.

[audio: English & Pāli]

The Buddha replied:

Keeping away from fools,
But with the wise keeping,
Respecting those worthy of respect,
This is a supreme blessing.

Living in a suitable place,
Having done good deeds before,
Grounded in a life of right,
This is a supreme blessing.

Practical knowledge and craft,
Discipline and good training
And words that are well spoken,
This is a supreme blessing.

Attending on mother and father,
Looking after spouse and children,
And a job that is peaceful,
This is supreme blessing.

Giving and living by Dhamma,
Looking after relations,
And actions that are blameless,
This is a supreme blessing.

Abstaining, refraining from bad deeds,
Restraint from alcoholic drink,
Diligence in all things,
This is a supreme blessing.

Respect and humility,
Contentment and being grateful,
Hearing Dhamma at the right time,
This is a supreme blessing.

Being patient and easily admonished,
Visiting ascetics,
Discussing Dhamma at the right time,
This is a supreme blessing.

Asceticism and being celibate,
Seeing the Noble Truths,
And attaining Nibbana,
This is a supreme blessing.

A mind that does not waver,
When touched by worldly things,
Griefless, dustless and secure,
This is a supreme blessing.

Having done as here directed,
Undefeated in all places,
They go everywhere in safety,
For them, indeed,
This is a supreme blessing.
